Founded in 2021 by Sara Kroeplin, SMK Coding is rooted in precision, integrity, and deep industry expertise. Sara holds dual bachelor’s degrees in Health Information Management and Computer Science, both earned cum laude from The College of St. Scholastica, and brings nearly 20 years of hands-on experience in healthcare coding and management.

Her background includes hospital coding roles in Minneapolis and Duluth, leadership as a Coding Manager at a Critical Access Hospital, and extensive experience across inpatient, outpatient, surgical, family practice, and specialty services. She is also highly proficient with Epic, Cerner, Meditech, and Athena EHRs.

Beyond her professional practice, Sara is passionate about advancing the HIM field through education. She has served as Program Director and Instructor for a Wisconsin technical college’s HIT and Medical Coding Specialist programs and currently teaches Coding Foundations as an adjunct instructor at a national university.
